In Christianity, the term agape refers to
the unconditional and voluntary love of God, God's love for humanity, and our
call to love one another.

What is Counseling? |
|
|
As a potential or new client, you may
have some questions about what to expect in
counseling. The beginning steps may seem quite
intimidating -- sharing
personal thoughts, feelings, and beliefs
with a complete stranger would be enough to
raise anxiety in anyone. Rest assured,
those of us at Agape Christian Counseling
Services desire to walk with you through any
struggles you may have.

What is the first step?
The first step is to call 314.746.9622. One
of our counselors will contact you to answer any
questions you may have and gather some general
information from you. Or, if you'd like, you can
fill out our online
Information Request form. You will then be
assigned to a counselor who will contact you
within 24 hours to set up an appointment.

What is the
initial session going to be
like?
When you arrive, you will be asked to fill
out a Patient Information sheet, which
includes biographical information. (If you
would prefer, you can print a copy of the
Patient Information form, fill it out,
and bring it with you to your initial
session.) Please
also bring your insurance card if you have
insurance. Your counselor will go over our
Policies and Procedures, which includes a
confidentiality statement. A
per-session fee will be discussed and agreed
upon. You and the counselor will then
begin discussing the issues and concerns
that bring you in for counseling. This is
also a time for you to ask questions and
express concerns you may have about your
counseling experience. You and the counselor
will end by determining how often you will
meet and scheduling your next appointment.

What is a typical session like at Agape Christian
Counseling Services?
Counseling sessions at Agape Christian
Counseling Services typically last 45-50 minutes.
During this time, you and your counselor will
examine the subject matter that brings you into
counseling. Often, this involves looking
at current behavior and thought patterns as well as
possibly exploring historical areas such as past
family or social relationships.

What do I do as a client?
One important aspect of counseling is your level of
participation. The common phrase "You get out what
you put in" definitely applies here. At times, the
counseling process may be challenging and may bring
up issues and feelings that you would rather avoid.
However, by addressing and dealing with these areas
you are beginning to take steps toward growth and
healing.

a safe and open place for you to share your
struggles, Agape Christian Counseling Services
counselors will not share your personal information
or anything discussed in session without your
permission.
(Certain limitations on confidentiality do
apply -- see your counselor for an elaboration of
these areas.)
